Have you ever met someone for the first time and immediately know “yeah, this person is a good one” and sure enough, they turn out to be one of the greatest humans ever? Well, that’s exactly what happened when I met this small business owner and new momma – Andrea Worthington of Baby Melon Co! Now, when we first met, Kahunaville in the Pen Centre (St. Catharines, ON) was the place to be on a Thursday night, and we didn’t miss a beat. Jump to 2021, we are both entrepreneurs and Kahunaville is a place people will likely have to Google.
These days our Thursday nights are filled with starting a night-time routine around 8:30pm or changing diapers…OR being boss babes running small businesses.
Without further ado, it is my absolute pleasure to introduce…
An online shop, fully stocked with the cutest baby & mama accessories.
There are new products weekly (Wednesday & Friday) and items are picked directly by Andrea in Brampton, ON!
Q: How and why did you start your business?
A: I was having a casual conversation with my partner about wanting to start a shop and he has always been so supportive with whatever ideas I come up with. I started a lot of new hobbies during this pandemic and thought, why not make it into a small business? As a millennial, I’ve been living my life to the grind, working long hours, multiple jobs and putting my mental health and happiness on the back burner. Having a baby during this pandemic shifted my mindset. Life is too short not to do something that brings you joy. I think this pandemic has definitely proven that. I decided that running a little shop would bring me joy. It was also an idea that would keep me busy during the pandemic and during my maternity leave. Eventually, Baby Melon Co. was born! Who doesn’t love baby/kids accessories? I decided to run my shop the same way I like to shop: fun, cute and affordable!
Q: What has been one of your most favourite moments during this process?
A: The small business community has been such a surprise to me! Some of my favourite moments have been meeting other small business owners (via Instagram) and seeing the amount of support they have for anyone just starting out. It’s beautiful to see the support instead of competition. There’s enough room for all of us out there running a small business.

To add to all of this goodness, I had the absolute pleasure of baking Andrea’s Mom a 65th Birthday cake…that despite a 2 hour power outage, turned out gorgeous and made Mom smile, which is really all that matters.
