Who am I?
Firstly, I’m a lot.
Secondly, I’m Alana, the face behind ‘There is a Hole in This Cake’. 🍰 My entire life has been spent in a kitchen, around a kitchen table, or anywhere the food was. I grew up a first-generation Canadian in a very Italian family and no matter what was going on, food brought us all together. Some of my favourite memories are from those very moments. To this day, anytime I bake something that I’m really proud of or whenever I need baking advice, I call my Nonna. If it weren’t for her, I would not have the skill and appreciation I now have for food. I am no stranger to the kitchen. 🇮🇹
In my professional life, I am an Expressive Arts Therapist and the Executive Director and Owner of a company devoted to providing inclusive and accessible arts-based programming, specialized in diverse neuro & physical abilities. Most of my responsibilities revolved around taking care of the needs of others and in order to provide myself with the full capacity to do so, I have to take care of myself. How do I do that? I bake and I run. Baking has become an incredibly therapeutic process that allows me to creatively express myself THROUGH FOOD and now I’m finally ready to share that with everyone!
So, I started a baking blog and sharing my treats on Instagram and now the rest is history🤷🏽♀️
This little hobby of mine has turned into a full-fledged multi-service business. Not only does she bake cookies, cakes, and cupcakes…she coordinates and executes intimate & elegant events. Whether it’s baking your dessert bar, planning your gathering, or hosting your event, There is a Hole in This cake has you covered. And when I’m not baking & planning events, I’m travelling to find some of the most delicious food around.
Why is there a hole in this cake? For anyone who hasn’t seen ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’…you are missing out on one of the greatest movies of all time. And, although it’s about being Greek, I watched the movie in awe, sure that it was about my big fat Italian family. There’s a scene in the movie with a particularly hilarious cake exchange and unless you see it first hand, I can’t explain it. Just trust me.
